I am usually reluctant to try filipino restaurants for a couple reasons:

1. It's never as good as home made.
2. There's something unappetizing about mass produced filipino food to me.
3. Did I mention how good home made is?

I was pleasantly surprised to eat here after learning of it's grand opening on carson and normandie five days ago. Also, it's all you can eat, which is always a plus.

The location is great for just the right clients, being in carson and across the street from harbor-ucla. Granted, you won't get the same specialized taste of your favorite filipino cuisine as you would from a filipino household's kitchen. But if you're in the need of a quick kare kare fix or craving that lumpia and don't want to hassle with simmering stews and rolling rice wrappers, ne is a safe bet for an accurate taste of the good stuff. They even had a halo-halo station for dessert.

And if you still have room, the bakery is filled with goodies that are pretty tasty, too. Pandesal, ensaymada, and hopia... oh my.

Not too long ago after settling in to our new apartment, raoul and I had dinner @ this Thai fusion restaurant off of melrose. On the way we happened to pass a live taping of jay leno's jaywalking segment. pretty exciting.

Ordered the tom kha lobster bisque to start followed by a main course of lamb chops served with mango and avocado sauce. Good stuff, indeed. Raoul was surprised by my over-excitement when I noticed the caviar atop my lobster bisque. I feel like caviar makes anything a bit fancy, don't you think? :p

Just finished the FAA's exam for air traffic control selection and training over @ cal state fullerton. Not as difficult as I thought it would be. Math was super easy. The sections that got to me were the letter factory questions and some of the analogies.

Also crashed 2 planes in the air traffic simulator. Wasn't my fault though. One just happened to spawn right in front of another that I had just moved :p

So I finally got my ps3 yesterday (fedex sux! >:( ) and replaced the 60gb hard drive with a 320gb, formatting to about 300 gigs. The system arrived damaged, with some of the plastic plating broken off. It looks like I have poor shipper handling and poor packaging to blame for that. However, everything is fully functional, so I'm not too mad about it.

So far my current library consists of cod:waw, sf4, and killzone 2. Next on my list: re5 :)

Happy Anniversary

So today marks nine years of being together with Elisha. Quite a long time, eh?

Looking back on it all, I know that I am truly blessed to have found my one and only so early in my life. I still find it funny when people ask "how can you be with someone for that long?" and "how can you be sure she is the one?". The short answer would be to shrug and reply "it just feels right" or "I just know" but I know that it goes much deeper than that.

As far as I know, being able to put nine years of emotional connection into words is near impossible, which is why the short answer can be both frustrating and inadequate for many curious cats. But if you really had the time to sit and listen to me describe every detail and every aspect that makes our relationship work and what makes me so happy to be with someone like Elisha, you would either become bored out of your mind or sick of all the lovey dovey-ness of it all, possibly ending the conversation with "forget that I even asked" or "lucky bastard". And yes, I know that I am a lucky bastard. :)

So what does a nine year relationship do on their anniversary? Go out and exercise together, then go out to our favorite restaurant for dinner, followed by snuggling up and watching tv. Seriously. It really doesn't take much for me to know that in nine years, I'm still happier and happier each passing day I see Elisha. Granted, I know she wouldn't mind having an incredibly luxurious weekend planned but hey, we're both simple people and the economy is bad right now. :p (and there are still many more mandatory opportunities for which these sort of celebrations are a must, so let's just say I'm saving up my ideas for them hehe)

So as I sit here, blogging from my phone at Elisha's desk as she's still lightly snoring and spitting away in her bed, I know that my life would not be nearly as good as it is if I didn't have her in it. I love you with all that I am and all that I ever will be. Happy anniversary bebe :)

1. I have hairy legs, but hairless ankles.

2. I don't know how to type. Seriously. Can program in C++ and play Guitar Hero on Expert, but type without looking? Negative. I do a pretty mean 10-key though.

3. I don't have any dreams. Not to say that I don't have hopes and goals for the future, but when I go to sleep and wake up in the morning, I don't remember anything. No images, fantasies, or nightmares. I hear it has something to do with not sleeping comfortably. I'm kind of worried about it.

4. I have very poor dental hygiene, yet I've never had any cavities.

5. I have two cowlicks on the back of my head. Extremely annoying as I was growing up, being the cause of occasional "Alfalfa" hair sprouts.

6. When I hear talk of multi-tasking and time management, the first thing that comes to mind is multi-core processors, system memory, and (the now obsolete) hyper-threading.

7. My pinkies are bent at 45 degree angle towards their respective thumbs. I had the hardest time creating those thanksgiving turkeys from your hand outline. I recall leaving the pinky part out and trying to freehand it so it would be straight. Only my old roommate Craig could understand.

8. I used to eat 8x8's at In-N-Out. Yes, 8 slices of cheese and 8 beef patties. I hear they don't allow you to order those anymore. Makes me miss my old metabolism. Now everything I eat sticks to me.

9. I'm a Filipino American, but I look Hispanic. I'm semi-fluent in Japanese. When Elisha and I eat at a Japanese restaurant, they always talk to her in Japanese (because she looks Japanese). I can understand, but she can't. When we eat at a Mexican restaurant, they talk to me in Spanish; she can understand, but I can't. Weird, huh?

10. I almost died in elementary school. School was out, and as my peers and I rushed to the main exit gate, someone happened to shove me from the rear, causing me to fall and break the bridge of my nose open on a sprinkler head. Blood literally gushed from my face. I was lucky enough to have my friends hurry me to the nurse's office before I blacked out. I still have the scar on my face.

11. I used to chase birds for no apparent reason. Especially when they were in large flocks. I used to think I was disrupting their meetings.

12. Believe it or not, I'm a hopeless romantic. I once saved one of Elisha's snot rags.

13. In elementary, I was one of the "student computer technicians." This is back when we had floppy disks, both the current ones and those large, thin, square ones. The usual solutions for most problems was either rebooting or making sure that files were being read from the correct floppy drive, either A:\ or B:\. Who knew I would still be so into the tech deal?

14. I HATE chocolate. To the point that I just say that I'm allergic so I don't incur any raging arguments. I do like a few things with chocolate, like Snickers and Oreo's. Elisha and I have had many an argument when it comes to dessert time.

15. I'm addicted to White Cheddar Cheez-it's. If I start eating them, I finish the entire box. No joke.

16. I really don't mind doing things for other people. Sometimes I prioritize others over myself, which tends to bite me in the butt every now and then. Elisha always asks me to do/make something for her, but upon completion she critiques my work, ultimately changing it entirely and thus defeating the purpose of doing something for her. Annoying.

17. I am one of the most patient people you will ever meet, but when it comes to troubleshooting problems with electronics, I have an extremely short fuse. It's one of the things I really hate about myself.

18. I love sour cream. I love onions. I hate the flavor "sour cream & onion."

19. I almost threw up the first time I had sashimi. Now it's one of my most favorite things to eat.

20. I really like making breakfast. I make some pretty mean eggs.

21. I may not look like it, but I am an extremely jealous boyfriend. Really.

22. I have a pretty good auditory memory. I can remember song lyrics and movie quotes after only hearing them as few as once. Oddly enough, I have a very selective ear. If you ask me to listen to the song playing in a restaurant, I wouldn't be able to tell you. I'd only be able to hear all of the ambient noise and nearby conversations from other restaurant patrons. I really don't know why that happens.

23. I've only really had two girlfriends. Ever. According to Elisha, the first one doesn't count. To be honest, Elisha was my first kiss.

24. I always put the toilet seat down. Always. I think it's because I've been conditioned by all the women in my family. All three million of them.

25. I'm such a pushover. It sucks that I know that I am too. I like to think that I'm just incredibly passive

Now I'm not really the superstitious type, but for some odd reason the mall does not like me on friday the 13th.

On two separate occassions when I was younger, I was separated from my family and ended up one of those lost children at the mall. I recall wandering off to check out video games while the rest of my family looked at clothing, and all of a sudden I lose them. I also distinctly remember crying over the mall intercom trying to relay my position to my family. Needless to say, quite embarassing.

Now that I'm older, at least I don't have to worry about being by myself in such a large area :p

... but I think I'll do any shopping for today online haha.

Went to a holiday get-together at my cousin oliver's new house in carson. Brought a pumpkin pie from marie callendar's since I don't know how to make anything for a potluck. Really nice house right next to the home depot center. Leesh really likes the color scheme.

Played some poker with all the fellas. Actually, finished off someone else's buy-in and ended up winning the pot. Quite unexpected, but very fun nonetheless, especially after not playing for so long.

I gotta admit, I had a really good time hanging out with my cuz. Made me think back on when we were much younger and he used to play with us little kids. I really wished we could've hung out more over the years, but I know I would really like to make an effort to see him and roz regularly from now on-- especially when little chloe comes along. Looking forward to the new bundle of joy you guys :)

Went to dinner with the plb fam at the stinking rose last night. Arrived at the apartment to find a beautifully decorated xmas tree with ornaments of practically all the past and present plb fam members, courtesy of xtn and kat. After a little rock band 2, we ventured off to the restaurant, dodging oncoming traffic, hitting people with car doors, and elbowing women in the face :p

Dinner was nice and stinky. Topped off with some delicious garlic ice cream (seriously, it's really good) and a little gift exchanging, I couldn't really ask for anything more. Thanks for the new blazer rem and eddy :)

I tend to tailgate people that cut me off to let them know that I don't really appreciate the inconsideration (yeah, it happens that often). This fucker has the audacity to get out of his car and holler at me, saying I need to back the fuck off because I'm going to fuck up his car. So I'm thinking to myself, had I not hit my brakes, you would've fucked up both of our cars, and now you're mad because I saved both of our asses and you just now realize that you don't know how to check your fucking blind spots. I stare this jerk down from my driver seat, already knowing that he knows he's the one that did me wrong. "Yeah, that's what I thought", he mummbles to me. No, you didn't think. That's the point, fucking idiot.

So I proceed to drive up next to him at the next stop to explain my point of view like a gentleman. The guy cuts, makes a right, and drives away. Little bitch.

Argh. Please, stupid drivers... stop bothering me :(

A little pre-holiday get-together at the apartment last night to be thankful before being thankful with our repective families. Pretty good turnout, with lots of food, DRINKS, rock band, guitar hero world tour, and quarters. Too bad no one took home any leftovers :(

So I just found out that you can request stone pot bibimbab at bcd for no additional cost. Yummy :)

It's amazing how much better it tastes simply by adding a heated serving vessel.

Solstice canyon hiking

Nice hike in solstice canyon with rem and eddy. Didn't realize that the parking area didn't open until 8am, so we took a detour and actually drove up the mountain :p

Eventually we drove back down and realized that they opened @ 8am, so we proceeded to travel up the mountain by foot. Oddly enough, this was the shortest hiking trip so far but ended up being the most tiring.

Cool part about the trail was that it intersects with the ruins of this house that burned down in the 80s.

Lunch in alhambra with leesh and her family. They used to go to this restaurant all the time when it was under their old ownership, primarily because of the good food for good prices. However, when it came under new management, they suspected that the food would be different, causing them to leave their faithful chinese restaurant.

I heard from diana that the cooks there were the same, so I recommended that we try the place again.

The verdict: the food is still good, but the prices are significantly higher.

Good food > price :)
